About Us
The Craft and Art of the Bookbinder
The handcrafting of books is a creative process. The book artist/binder determines the proper structure and method of construction,
the selection of materials and binding style, and when bound, the books display the skill, creativity, and experience of the binder.
The Bookbinder
As the bookbinder at Artful Bookbinder, I have over twenty years of experience, and most of the time, I can be found creating journals, albums, artist sketchbooks and other book and box structures in my studio.
I became interested in bookbinding when I enrolled in a calligraphy workshop. As a final project, I was required to create a handmade book to display my calligraphy. Binding my first book, I realized that I truly enjoyed selecting the materials, measuring, cutting, gluing and constructing the book structure and that triggered a spark of joy, I knew that I wanted to continue to pursue and learn as much as I could about the craft of bookbinding.
I work with a variety of high-qulaity materials ranging from Japanese, Italian and designed fabric boookcloths, Italian and Japanese decorative papers, Irish linen thread, Hahnemuehle, Arches and Lana Artist Paper brand papers and other bookbinding related items.
Bookbinding Workshops
We offer bookbinding workshops on many binding styles and box making.
The workshops provide the opportunity to share my years of knowledge, ideas, and to emphasize the importance of bookbinding as an artist outlet.
